Quilting – Got Scraps? Make Quilts!
If you have made just one quilt you have scraps, or what we call a “stash”. These are pieces of fabric left over from cutting pieces needed for your quilt(s), or other quilt related project. Quilters all realize that these scraps multiply simply by sitting in our sewing baskets. Therefore, we need to create more quilts to use up our scraps. This class will explore interesting ways to use your stash of scraps. Linda will give written directions and teach how to make a few different quilts that will work well with a variety of fabrics. Most of these will use standard quilt shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles. Students may choose one or more of these quilts to make in a size of their choice. Projects will begin in class and may be finished in the student’s desired time-frame. Sharing of ideas from students for other scrap quilts is encouraged. We should have a good selection of quilt possibilities by the end of the semester. Traditional yardage and fabric such as “fat quarters” may also be used. Students must have machine sewing skills and knowledge of the operation of their sewing machines. A rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat will be used, as well as basic sewing supplies. Weekly instructions will be included in class, with sewing on your own machine at home. We will discuss everything needed in our first class.
